We'll bet that you identified the flagpole as the antenna right off! Obvious isn't it? Well maybe to all of us, but you can be sure that it's not that obvious to Dom's neighbors.

Dom tells us that "I've just installed a 23' wire in my flagpole and coupled it to an SG-237 coupler mounted at the base of the flagpole.  I mounted the coupler underneath a miniature wooden wheelbarrow planter.  I installed 3 buried radials, each about 30' long, 2-3" below the ground.  The feedline is 100' of RG8X coax, with about 40' buried 18" below grade." 

A setup like this is a natural for someone who needs to put a hidden antenna in place. This one looks good, and is very creative in how the Smartuner is hidden to keep everything from being seen. In some installations, a box is buried in the ground connected to the Radio Room by buried piping. The coax is run into the box and connected to the Smartuner there which then feeds the antenna at it's base. 

Let's let Dom fill us in on his results: "The set-up appears to be working great on 80-10 meters (didn't try WARC bands yet) with a 1:1 SWR everywhere.  I fired up my old Heathkit SB102 and I'm extremely pleased with the performance."

We couldn't be more pleased with the results. While the antenna is probably only marginally efficient at 80 meters, Dom's report of good results shows that even a marginal antenna can perform well when the energy is coupled efficiently into the radiating system.
