What is the frequency coverage of the SG-2000?
The SG-2000 has continuous coverage from 1.6 - 30 MHz.
What are the power requirements for the SG-2000?
The SG-2000 operates from 13.6 VDC nominal, and will offer full specification compliance from 11.5VDC - 18.0 VDC. Current requirement is 0.8A RX, 16A TX (voice).
Is the SG-2000 suitable for data modes?
The SG-2000 is suitable for all types of popular HF data communications, including CW operation and weather fax reception.
How do I get a remote head installation?
If you already own an SG-2000, you can order a Remote Head Kit to remote the head yourself. The SG-2000 Powertalk™ ADSP2 is available off the shelf with the head remoted. You can also send your radio to the SGC factory to have your head remoted. SGC recommends that installation of the remote head is done at the factory. The only new heads available to add to your SG-2000 are currently the SG-2000 Powertalk ADSP2 and SG-RM head.
How far can the remote head be located from the chassis on the SG-2000?
The remote head can be located up to 50 meters from the chassis. Additional distance may be obtained by using high quality 10 conductor shielded cable.
What is the RS-232 port on the SG-2000 used for?
The RS-232 port is connected to a PC to control most of the functions that are available on the front panel of the radio. There is no provision to control the audio functions. This type of control is used for ALE (automatic link establishment) and for remote control of the unit via telephone lines. The RS-232 port is not used for standard data communications or weather fax reception. SGC can supply a simple DOS program for remote control applications.
What is needed to operate the SG-2000 outside the ITU channels?
The SG-2000 is ready to operate on any frequency between 1.6-30 MHz. No modification is required. Make sure that you are authorized on any frequency that you transmit on.
What is the difference between the SG-2000 and the SG-2000 Power Talk?
The Power Talk incorporates the latest in Digital Signal Processing technology. The benefits are dramatic reduction in noise and interference on the received signals. The PowerTalk also features a VFO style tuning knob, and band key for improved frequency agility.
Can the Standard SG-2000 be upgraded to PowerTalk?
Yes, you may install a PowerTalk ADSP2 control head on any existing SG-2000 chassis. The factory also offers an upgrade of the original PowerTalk to the PowerTalk ADSP2.
How do I remote the control head on my SG-2000 radio?
You will need to order the correct remote kit from your dealer. If you have a standard SG-2000, you may install the remote kit yourself. If you have the PowerTalk model, it is strongly suggested that you have the remote kit installed at the factory. There is no additional labor charge for this service.
