Ray Richard, W4RPR of Moodus, CT sent us these pictures of his special event station operation at the New London Ledge Lighthouse in New London, CT. The Radio Amateur Society of Norwich (RASON) put on the event with 4 stations, including Ray's with his SG-2020 ADSP and SG-239 coupler feeding a delta loop. The club operated as N1NW and made 1,017 contacts.
Ray's SG-239 tuner was mounted at the feed point of his delta loop antenna, just exactly the way we recommend here at SGC. Operating in a marine environment can be challenging, especially since the SG-239 is not in a waterproof container, but showing normal ham ingenuity, Ray created his own water-tight container from a readily available plastic storage container.
Using two 16.5 foot fishing poles with some PVC and the SG-239 Ray created a delta loop antenna. In his unique configuration, the feed point for his delta loop was at the apex of the triangle at the bottom. Using PSK31, Ray made 56 contacts with the SG-2020 and SG-239 as follows: 1 from Spain, 1 from Mexico, 3 from Panama, 1 from Romania, 1 from Brazil, 1 from Canada, 1 from Cuba, 2 from Poland, 1 from France, 1 from Italy, 2 from Australia and 41 from the USA.
Well done Ray!
