During normal operation of the SG-500, each time you change PTT/Filter modes, you must turn the amplifier off and back on to activate the change.
Manual PTT / Auto Filter:
1. Connect a hard wire PTT from the transceiver to pin # 7 (PTT) on the SG-500 accessory connector. 2. Turn on the amplifier.
3. Key the transceiver (do not speak into mic). You should hear a click - but no LEDs should light. The SG-500 has switched 12VDC to the LPA section, but the T/R realays have not been activiated yet.
4. Speak into the microphone. You should hear a click and see the appropriate filter bank LED and XMT LED light. The RF sensing has activated the automatic filter selection and has completed keying activation (T/R relays) of the amplifier. You should see amplified power output.
5. Stop speaking into the microphone but keep the microphone keyed. You should see no change to the SG-500. Both LEDs should say lit. The amp is still in transmit mode but there is no power output as you are not supplying RF input.
6. Release PTT: You should hear an immediate click and the XMT and filter band LEDs should turn off. The amplifier is back at receive: With manual PTT mode sleected, the amplifier should have no delay in the PTT release.
Manual PTT / Manual Filter
1. Connect a hard wire PT to pin # 7 (PTT) on the amplifier accessory connector and a wire from the appropraite filter band pin to ground pin # 9.
2. Turn on the amplifier.
3. When the amplifier is turned on, you should hear a click and the appropriate filter band LED should light.
4. Key the microphone.
You should hear an immediate click and the XMT LED should light.
The Amplifiier is now in transmit - 12VDC relays and T/R realys have both been activated and the amplifier is live.
5. Speak into the microphone and verify the amplified RF output. 6. Release PTT. The amplifier should click and immediately release keying.
Auto PTT / Auto Filter
1. Key the transceiver. The amplifier should not respond.
2. Speak into the microphone. The amplifier should switch to transmit and the XMT LED and appropriate filter band LED should light.
The Amplifier will have a delay of up to 500ms in activating transmit as it waits for the RF sensing circuit to respond.
3. Stop speaking into the microphone. The amplifier will release transmit. The delay time for RF sensing release keying is up to 100ms in auto PTT mode.
