Martin Adler, DL2MLS, wrote us about his portable station based on the SG-237 Porta Tuner. Martin operates in and around the Bavarian Alps, a great place to setup with lovely scenery to make it all the more pleasant. He tells us that it takes him a half-hour to hike up to his lookout point, but once he gets there, everything operates well.
For Martin, the "... 'porta'-tuner is the only way to load an antenna, because I'm handicapped with short arms (from Contergan) and the tuner is very easy to handle for me."
Martin works with a " ... 'porta'-tuner with a loop antenna in the trees; the transmitter is a YAESU FT-100D with about 12 watts HF output and the battery is 12Volt/7,2AH. The whole station goes with me in a backpack ..." As you can see from the picture, he's got a very nice portable setup.
Martin also sets up on his balcony, operating a long wire from his SG-230 Smartuner. Martin sent us a picture of himself by his balcony antenna. He asked us to print his picture and explained, "There are many people in the world who are handicapped, so they can see what they can do or reach with a handicap!".
